Summary

In Bangladesh, the Rakhain indigenous people of Kuakata have accumulated knowledge and skills of disaster management, especially for surviving cyclones. They have used traditional indicators, such as the behavior of animals and plants, to forecast cyclones. They have also used indigenous survival strategies, such as building elevated houses, storing food and water, and using medicinal plants, to cope with the cyclone Sidr in 2007
