Ahar Pynes in India: These are traditional floodwater harvesting systems that divert excess water from rivers or streams into earthen embankments called ahars. The ahars store water for irrigation and recharge the groundwater. The pynes are long channels that carry water from the source to the ahars. They are prevalent in the state of Bihar, where floods and droughts are common
