Summary

In Canada, the Kashechewan First Nation of Ontario has used their traditional knowledge of the land, water, and weather to predict and cope with spring flooding in the James Bay region. They have observed the changes in the ice conditions, water levels, animal behavior, and wind patterns to anticipate the onset and severity of floods. They have also used their traditional skills of hunting, fishing, and trapping to sustain their livelihoods after the floods
